Ottawa Senators Set to Debut Heritage Uniforms Designed by Fan (Photo)When graphic designer Jacob Barrette posted a design for an alternate uniform on an Ottawa Senators message board, he didn’t think much of it. Now, four and a half years later, the team will wear his design on the ice as they debut their heritage uniforms on Thursday night.

Senators VP of marketing Jeff Kyle learned about Barrette thanks to a groundswell of support the fan had gained through an online petition and interviews with the media. When the team decided in 2009 to commission an alternate jersey, Barrette was selected to bring his design to fruition.

With the help of a hockey historian and the city of Ottawa, Barrette made sure the jersey would reflect the Senators’ storied history and celebrated past.

The horizontal stripes on the uniform are a nod to the team’s “Barber Poles” nickname from back in the day and the “O” logo is a throwback to the Senators’ logo that the team used prior to moving to St. Louis in 1938.

Captain Daniel Alfredsson modeled the jersey with Barrette for a team photoshoot. Check out the finished jersey design below, courtesy of the Senators website.
