NESN's Peter Gammons has spent a lot of time around the Red Sox and around Ben Cherington, so he knows a thing or two about what the club will be getting from its new general manager. Gammons believes two of Cherington's strengths will be his people skills and his leadership ability.
Cherington should be able to step right in and make a seamless transition to his new role, having been in the organization since 1998. He also has a strong background in scouting, which should serve him well as the Red Sox try to develop new players.
