Report: Sidney Crosby Could Be Cleared for Contact in Practice Soon Sidney Crosby could be one step closer to making a return to the ice, according to a report by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Crosby is reportedly being evaluated sometime this week by his medical team, with a chance that he could be cleared for contact in practice. However, the timing of his meeting is up in the air. While the Tribune-Review reported that Crosby would be meeting with doctors on Tuesday, Crosby told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that he wouldn't meet with them until sometime later "this week."

The doctors are led by clinical neuropsychologist Michael Collins, who heads the Sports Medicine Concussion Program at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Sid the Kid has been practicing with the Penguins since mid-September, but has been doing so while wearing a white helmet — a reminder to his teammates that he isn't ready for contact while recovering from post-concussion symptoms.

He hasn't played since Jan. 5 of last season, after being diagnosed with a concussion suffered during the Winter Classic at Heinz Field between the Penguins and Capitals.

Crosby remains on the IR, but reportedly can come off and join the Penguins' active roster at any time.
