Reports: Theo Epstein ‘On the Cusp’ of Joining Cubs, But Deal Not Done YetThe Red Sox are likely waiting for their general manager situation to be sorted out before finding a new manager. Now, it appears they'll have to find a replacement at both positions.

The Boston Herald originally reported that Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein is close to leaving his position in Boston to accept a job with the Chicago Cubs.

The Herald report seems to indicate that Epstein would see an increase in power in Chicago, something that was thought to be a potential dealbreaker for Epstein.

Two baseball sources reportedly confirmed to the Herald's Steve Buckley that the move was about to happen and that an announcement could be made in the next day or two.

CSNNE's Sean McAdam reported later Tuesday night that a source told him that a deal was "close, but not done yet."

According to the Herald, the deal is held up at the moment as the Sox are actively pursuing compensation for Epstein who still has another year left on his contract. The Red Sox were reportedly hoping that Epstein would indeed stay in Boston.

"This is going to be resolved very soon," a source told Buckley.

However, the CSNNE.com report detailed that the deal is hung up, but told McAdam "it's a little more complicated" than just a discussion over compensation between the two clubs.
