If you’re a college football fan and you don’t love Robert Griffin III by now, well, then you must be from Norman, Okla.
Griffin, the quarterback for Baylor, orchestrated one of the great game-winning drives in Big 12 history and the biggest win in Baylor history to lead the Bears to a 45-38 victory over Oklahoma on Saturday night.
The epic drive, which began on Baylor’s 20-yard line with 51 seconds remaining, ended with Griffin finding Terrance Williams for the game-winning touchdown with 8 seconds left. But it was the play a whole quarter earlier that may go down as the craziest of the year.
Trailing 24-17 and facing second and 13 from its own 13-yard line, Baylor placed Griffin in shotgun with an empty backfield, three receivers to his right and one to his left.
Griffin fired — and we mean fired — a pass over the middle, but it was deflected. The pass was thrown with so much force it ricocheted 18 yards downfield, where Kendall Wright, who had been the lone wideout to Griffin’s left, raced under it and covered the final 50 yards on his own.
The 87-yard TD pass was the first of three straight Bears touchdowns in Baylor’s first win over Oklahoma ever.
Why do you have to love Griffin, though? Heck, everybody makes a lucky play every now and then.
You’ve got to love Griffin because rather than flex his muscles and celebrate the score as if he’d done something great, the junior QB knew the play was a fluke. As you can see in the Video of the Day below, he shook his head and raised his arms in disbelief, looked up to the heavens as if to say, “Hey, thanks for the help,” and then went down on one knee.
But don’t call it “Tebowing.” Maybe it should be called “RG3-ing.”
