Oddsmakers Say Bruins Still Not Stanley Cup Favorites Despite Hot Streak, Win Against Penguins

Who is the odds-on favorite to win the Stanley Cup? It's pretty obvious that it should be the Bruins.

The B's are currently riding a 14-0-1 hot streak and convincingly beat the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday night. On Tuesday, against the lowly Winnipeg Jets, the Bruins will have a chance to move into first place in the Eastern Conference.

But according to the oddsmakers at Bodog.com, the Bruins aren't even one of the top three teams most likely to win this season's Stanley Cup. The Bruins check in with 11-to-1 odds to repeat as Stanley Cup champions, which ties them with the Vancouver Canucks for the fifth-best odds to win.

The Pittsburgh Penguins remain the favorites with 6-to-1 odds, despite their loss to the Bruins on Monday night. Chicago and San Jose are both 9-to-1 to win and the Philadelphia Flyers have the fourth-best chances according to the oddsmakers at 10-to-1.

If you like longshots, on the other hand, the Columbus Blue Jackets and New York Islanders are both 300-to-1 to take home Lord Stanley's Cup.

It's still early in the season, but recent history suggests that the Bruins are playing the best hockey right now. It will just be a question of whether they can continue their strong play the rest of the year and into the postseason for another Cup run.

Will the Bruins repeat as Stanley Cup champions this season?
