Report: Liverpool Denies Interest in Nikica Jelavic, Rangers Striker Thought to Be LFC Target Liverpool is not as interested in signing Nikica Jelavic as some reports would have you believe. The Rangers striker reportedly wants to make an Anfield move in January, but LFC has downplayed speculation linking it with the player, according to the Liverpool Echo

"The Croatian frontman's father has said he expects the 26-year-old, who is the SPL's top scorer with 14 goals this season, to move to Anfield before the end of the transfer window," the report says. "But the Reds have played down their interest in the frontman who is being pursued by Fulham, Queens Park Rangers and West Ham."

Jelavic has bagged those 14 goals in only 22 Scottish Premier League games this season. The Glasgow giants do not want to sell their star striker, but its cash-poor status could see it accept a transfer bid of around £10 million ($15.5 million).

The red-hot Jelavic has not said he wants to leave Rangers, but he is at the point in his career where a move to a big club makes sense. The 26-year-old only became a Croatian international in 2009, and he does not have much time to cement a place on his national team before this summer's European Championships.

A move to LFC or another successful Premier League club, could secure help his cause ahead of Euro 2012 and the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
