The Rams have fired head coach Steve Spagnuolo, FOX Sports' Jay Glazer first reported. The Rams wrapped up a 2-14 season on Sunday, a pitiful ending for a team that was expected to contend for a playoff spot.
The Rams also let go of general manager Billy Devaney.
Spagnuolo became the head coach in St. Louis after eight years as a respected defensive assistant with the Eagles and two years as the defensive coordinator for the Giants. He directed the defense that upset the previously undefeated Patriots in Super Bowl XLII.
Spagnuolo was less successful as the boss, leading the Rams to a 1-15 record in his first season before posting a promising 7-9 mark in 2010 with rookie quarterback Sam Bradford.
But Bradford was limited to 10 games this season and even when he did play, he was hardly effective. Bradford's touchdown total fell from 18 a season ago to six this season, along with six interceptions.
Spagnuolo is a native of Grafton, Mass., and played wide receiver at Springfield College.
