Marco Scutaro is reportedly on his way to Colorado, but that deal might just be a sample of what's to come.
According to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick, a baseball source has indicated that the Red Sox will make an "aggressive bid" for free-agent pitcher Roy Oswalt in the wake of the Scutaro deal.
By dealing the shortstop, the Sox will have freed up $6 million, which was owed to Scutaro after the team exercised its option on the 36-year-old earlier this offseason.
Oswalt, 34, is coming off an injury-plagued campaign in which he went 9-10 with a 3.69 ERA in 23 starts for the Phillies. The righty is a three-time All-Star, and has finished in the top five for Cy Young voting on five different occasions.
Oswalt was particularly solid down the stretch in 2010 upon being dealt to Philadelphia after nine-plus seasons in Houston. He went 7-1 with a 1.74 ERA in 13 games (12 starts) after the trade.
Oswalt, who's won 20 games twice in his career, boasts a 159-93 record and a 3.21 ERA in 339 games (326 starts) over the course of 11 seasons.
