Vote: Are You Upset With Tim Thomas' Decision to Not Attend Bruins' White House Visit? The defending Stanley Cup champion Boston Bruins visited the White House on Monday, where they took a tour and met with President Barack Obama. Tim Thomas, however, elected not to attend.

Thomas later released a statement saying that he believes "the Federal government has grown out of control, threatening the Rights, Liberties, and Property of the People." Therefore, the reigning Conn Smythe Trophy and Vezina Trophy-winning goaltender elected to use his right as a free citizen to not attend the day's happenings.

Thomas also said that the decision was not about politics or party, as he instead said it was a choice he had to make as an individual.

Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli said the event wasn't mandatory, and therefore, he would not suspend Thomas or hand down any discipline for skipping out. The rest of the Bruins' Stanley Cup-winning squad was in attendance, and went about the event as usual. Many fans and pundits, however, have taken to Twitter and other forms of social media to discuss Thomas' decision to not attend.
