Joao Carlos Teixeira completed his long-rumored move to Liverpool FC on Wednesday, joining the Reds’ Academy from Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon. Teixeira trained with the first team at Sporting, and was highly rated by LFC scouts.

Sporting is known for its youth system — Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Figo both started at the club — but the Portuguese club was willing to sell Teixeira because of financial constraints. Immediately, the Reds showed interest in the midfielder.

Liverpool announced Teixeira’s signing on its website. The transfer fee is estimated to be around £850,000 ($1.3 million).
