The Yankees were having a quiet offseason until suddenly they weren't any more. After trading for Michael Pineda from the Seattle Mariners, the Bronx Bombers may now be looking to ship out A.J. Burnett to the Pittsburgh Pirates, according to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman.

New York is apparently trying to free up some money for a designated hitter like Raul Ibanez and the $33 million Burnett is owed over the last two years of his contract is weighing heavily on the team's payroll. However, the money has also been a haggling point between the two clubs as they discuss a possible trade.

The Yankees are willing to chip in on some of Burnett's salary, but exactly how much remains to be seen. Heyman reports that as of this time, no other teams have expressed interest in Burnett.
