Top 60 Moments in Beanpot History Include Tony Amonte's Memorable Hat Trick, Terriers Before 'Miracle on Ice'The Beanpot has seen its share of memorable moments over 60 years.

From local heroes to Olympic gold medalists and everything in between, the Beanpot has set a grand stage for Boston-area college hockey every year. As part of the tournament's 60th anniversary, NESN.com is counting down 60 of the storied tournament's top moments.

We've already counted down moments 60-41, and we'll continue the list throughout the week. Here's 40-21.

40. Two-time MVP anyone?
John Cunniff
was a member of the 1964 and 1965 Beanpot championship teams and was named the Most Valuable Player of both tournaments for the Boston College Eagles.

39. Wow, 13 points, but no title.
Dave Poile
finished his Beanpot career in 1970 with Northeastern, at the time ranking seventh all-time in points scored with 13 points despite never winning a Beanpot title.

38. Overtime Warriors 
In 2008, Boston College goes through two overtime games to win the Beanpot. Their game against BU ended when Nathan Gerbe scored. They won the championship against Harvard thanks to a goal from Nick Petrecki.

37. Top Dog
In 1980, Northeastern defenseman Dave Archambault became the first Northeastern player to win the Beanpot MVP Award; leading the Huskies to a 5-4 victory over the BC Eagles.

36. Muse Holds Strong
John Muse
stuffs Nick Bonion with 19.8 seconds left to give BC a 4-3 Beanpot victory over BU in 2010. Muse's save came after BU scored twice to get within one.

35. An Impressive Natural Hat Trick
In 1991, Tony Amonte scored three goals in only 5:24 seconds of play which led to an MVP award as well as a Beanpot championship.

34. Ashe Snipes Harvard
BC's Tom Ashe scored with 8:05 left in overtime to lift the Eagles over favored Harvard 2-1 in 1994, a showdown which featured strong performances from BC goalie Greg Taylor and Harvard's Aaron Isreal

33. Crimson Reign
In 1993, the Crimson were held up by freshmen goaltender Tripp Tracey and tourney MVP Ted Drury as they defeated BU for the title, halting the Terriers from a fourth straight straight title. 

32. Logue saves the day for Boston College
In 1959, sophomore Jim Logue became the first goaltender to win tournament Most Valuable Player honors as the Eagles defeated Harvard and BU.

31. Big Time Finale
No. 1 Boston University defeated No. 3 Northeastern in a highly anticipated 2009 final. The game was tightly contested going into the third period until the Terriers pulled away for a 5-2 victory.

30. Herb ties the Billy
In the 1967 tournament, Herb Wakabayashi had six assists, which is a record he still shares with BC's Billy Daley and the Terriers' David Silk.

29. Way to dish the puck, Bill!
Bill Daley holds the Beanpot single-game record for assists with six. This was later tied by Wakabayashi in 1967.

28. Well Rounded
In the 1975 semifinal game between Harvard and Northeastern, the Crimson defeated the Huskies 9-0, in the biggest shutout of Beanpot history.

27. Miracle at BU
Boston University defeated Boston College 4-3 in the 1979 Beanpot. Terriers Dave Silk, Jim Craig and Jack O'Callahan went on to the Olympics where they defeated the Soviets in the "Miracle on Ice."

26. Red puts defensemen in good light
In 1961, Tom "Red" Martin netted three goals and three assists to earn Most Valuable Player honors, becoming the first defenseman to be so honored.

25. The Beanpot Trot
In 1986, the Boston College Hockey team released the infamous "Beanpot Trot" rap video, much like the Chicago Bears' "Super Bowl Shuffle" from that year's NFL season.

24. Boston Goal Party
BU demolished Northeastern 11-4, setting a record for most goals in a final in 1996. BU scored eight straight goals at one point to blow the game open. Chris Drury paced the Terriers with a hat trick.

23. Way to get the job done Jack
From 1963-72, Jack Kelley had his teams advance to the title game nine times and won the Beanpot six times. Kelley's overall winning percentage of .750 in the Beanpot ranks third all time.

22. Huskies Come Up Short
Trading leads all night, a 6-6 tie led to Northeastern and BC squaring off in overtime in 2011. Jimmy Hayes scored the game-winner, giving the Eagles their third title in four years.

21. BU's Unique Feat
With their win against BC in 2007, the Terriers had more titles than the other three schools combined. Brian McGuirk scored his first goal of the season against Cory Schnider in overtime.
