Are the Toronto Maple Leafs This Season's Most Disappointing NHL Team? This could have been the Maple Leafs' year to finally make a return to the playoffs. Instead, things have fallen apart quickly for Phil Kessel and Co.

Ron Wilson was fired, Rick Carlyle was brought in to try to rally the squad, but it appears to be too little, too late as the Leafs have quickly slid down the standings and out of the playoffs.

While it's not impossible for the Leafs to mount an incredible comeback and storm into the postseason, we won't hold our breath. However, they are far from the only disappointing team in the NHL this season.

Last season's Eastern Conference finalist, the Tampa Bay Lightning, have looked nothing like the team that pushed the Bruins to the brink in a tight seven-game series. Their western counterparts, the San Jose Sharks, have also struggled to stay in the hunt one year removed from a crushing loss in the Western Conference Finals to Vancouver.

The Los Angeles Kings, like the Sharks, have also sputtered all year despite some dark horse expectation at the beginning of the year. And don't get us started on Montreal, where the wheels have fallen completely off.

There's no shortage of fan bases who were hoping for more when the season began way back in October. Is Toronto the worst of the bunch?
