Messi scored another lob — his new favorite way to finish — in the 67th minute, not only to break the scoring record, but also (perhaps more importantly for him) to give Barcelona a 3-2 lead over Granada.
His tally does not include goals scored in friendly competitions. For that title, he needs to pass Paulino Alcantara, who has 369 goals.
The 24-year-old forward had another goal earlier on a scorching volley inside the box to put Barcelona up 2-0. He also had an assist earlier in the game in the fourth minute.
Earlier Tuesday, Barcelona had clarified that, not including international competition, Messi was only one goal behind the legendary Cesar entering the game against Granada.
The goal also ties Messi for first place with Cristiano Ronaldo in the race for La Liga's top scorer — the all-important "Pichichi" award.
