With Tuukka Rask sidelined for four to six weeks, the Bruins signed veteran goaltender Marty Turco to a one-year contract on Monday.
However, Turco's arrival in Boston isn't a sure thing just yet, as the three-time All-Star still has to clear waivers before joining the club. It might not pose a problem given the limited interest in the 36-year-old, but general manager Peter Chiarelli knows that it's at least a possibility that Turco could be claimed by another team before the noon deadline on Wednesday.
Chiarelli put the chances of Turco clearing waivers at 50/50. If and when Turco does join the club, though, Chiarelli expects him to spell Tim Thomas the rest of the way, giving the Bruins starter a chance to rest up before what Boston hopes is another deep playoff run.
