Los Angeles Lakers center Andrew Bynum said he will not target Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade when they face off on in Los Angeles, Yahoo! Sports reports. Wade fouled Lakers guard Kobe Bryant in the NBA All-Star game last Sunday, breaking his nose in the process.
Bynum is already being watched heavily by the NBA. He has already been suspended multiple times over the past several seasons due to hard fouls, including a four-game suspension to begin this season after a flagrant foul on J.J. Barea in the 2011 playoffs. Bynum sent then-Bobcats forward Gerald Wallace to the hospital with broken ribs and a collapsed lung in 2009, and a forearm sent Timberwolves forward Michael Beasley crashing to the floor last season.
"I can't do anything about it," Bynum told reporters. "If I do anything, they're going to definitely hit me [with a suspension and/or fine]. It sucks. It's not good. It's unfortunate. It's something we got to deal with. I got Beasley, I got Barea and people blame me for the Gerald Wallace incident."
Bynum doesn't believe he is the only Lakers player who is treated differently by the league.
"There is an eye on Matt Barnes and [Metta World Peace] and myself," Bynum was quoted as saying. "There just is. It's part of the game. We're going to get hit extra hard for anything."
This Heat-Lakers contest will already be a very physical matchup. No need to add injuries to the mix.
