Shawn Thornton and his teammates will be sporting some new hairdos in the near future, as the team will be hosting the fifth annual Cuts for a Cause on Wednesday, March 28.
The event will benefit the Boston Bruins Foundation and Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center, and will involve Thornton and his teammates getting their heads shaved by auction winners on stage to show their support and raise money for children battling cancer.
Bruins fans can bid on the opportunity to shave the head of their favorite participating Bruins player by visiting www.bostonbruins.com/cutsforacause. The bidding began Monday, March 19, and will conclude Monday, March 26, at noon.
Auction winners will also receive admission to the VIP session from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., during which they can mingle with the team in a private viewing area. Winners will also receive a special Bruins gift bag that includes autographed memorabilia.
The Boston Bruins Foundation is raffling off the chance for a lucky fan to shave Tyler Seguin's head and two VIP tickets to the event. Tickets for the raffle can be purchased online at www.bruinsraffles.org for $5 per ticket. The raffle runs from Monday, March 19, until Monday, March 26, at 5 p.m.
NESN's Naoko Funayama caught up with Thornton prior to the Bruins' victory over the Maple Leafs on Monday to discuss the event. Check out the video above to hear more about it.
