The Bruins' two-headed goaltending monster has always been one of the team's strengths. Now, with Tuukka Rask getting hurt on Saturday, the Bruins will need to dig deep.
If Rask is forced to miss a significant amount of time, Tim Thomas will be leaned upon even more heavily down the stretch, something Claude Julien certainly wasn't anticipating. Julien would have loved to have played Rask frequently toward the end of the season, not only because he's arguably the game's best backup goalie, but because it would have kept Thomas fresh for the playoffs.
Thomas will now be called upon to be a workhorse down the stretch, as the B's face an intense schedule in addition to their injury problems. The difficult road will continue on Sunday in New York and then again on Tuesday in Toronto, and Rask will not be present for either game.
