Andrew Ference isn’t a big guy. And he doesn’t often get himself into physical battles, especially fights.
On Tuesday night, Ference made an exception. After a tough first period, Ference had just about enough of the Pittsburgh Penguins’ gritty style and took on a much larger opponent to relieve some aggression.
Ference challenged Penguins winger James Neal, giving up a solid three inches (5’11” to 6’2″) to the burly forward, and threw some serious haymakers in the battle. At times, Ference looked severely overmatched with Neal’s pummelling presence.
But the Bruins defenseman didn’t back down from the beastly Neal, continuing to land Butterbean-like hooks until finally pile-driving the Penguins forward into the ice.
