Greg Stiemsma felt lucky just to make the Celtics roster at the beginning of the 2011-12 season. Now with just two games left in the season, the 26-year-old center is playing a vital role in Boston's playoff push.
The shot-blocking big man has solidified a spot on the Celtics roster this season, and has been using the elders around him to continue improving his game. He says that "paying better attention to detail" has helped him assimilate better into the flow of the NBA game, and that Kevin Garnett has served as somewhat of a mentor for the youngster throughout the year.
Stiemsma stopped by the NESN studios to let off some steam — no pun intended — and spent a few minutes chatting with NESN.com's Luke Hughes.
"The Stiemer," as coach Doc Rivers likes to call him, talked about his long journey overseas in Turkey and South Korea to even get to the NBA. He also discussed some of the many nicknames that have sprouted up since joining the Celtics, among his favorites is "Goldie Blocks."
Check out the video above to see Stiemsma spend a few good minutes kicking back and getting real inside the NESN studios.
