Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine suddenly faces quite the predicament now that Jacoby Ellsbury will be sidelined.
Valentine has to decide who to use in the leadoff spot, which is typically designated for the speedy Ellsbury. Mike Aviles got the nod in that spot on Saturday, but Valentine could elect to switch things up based on matchups. As NESN’s Peter Gammons points out, though, Aviles could be the right man for the job, as he relishes such opportunities.
