Randy Moss Nearly Traded to Green Bay Packers Instead of PatriotsRandy Moss' three-plus year stint in New England proved to be one of the greatest draft-day moves the Patriots ever made. But another team nearly nabbed Moss before the Patriots even had the chance to pull the trigger in 2007.

When the Oakland Raiders originally opened up the market for Moss, during the 2007 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers were one of two teams, along with the Patriots, to have been dealing for the wideout.

Andrew Brandt, who served as the Packers vice president from 1999 to 2008, said this week that the Packers had a deal in place for Moss but couldn't agree on a contract with the talented receiver.

"Moss demanded a one-year deal so he could hit the market after the season and recoup some lost value, but we insisted on a two-year deal," Brandt said in a pre-draft column on ESPN.com. "We did not want to be a temporary stop for him before he made another big contract elsewhere. When New England relented on the one-year term, Moss was a Patriot."

Brandt went on to chronicle how upset former-Packers quarterback Brett Favre was with the decision, and even referred to Favre as saying "he didn't have time" to develop another wide receiver.

Bill Belichick and the Patriots may have made out in the short term with the Moss deal, but it could be argued that Green Bay came out on top over the long haul. The Packers instead drafted a little-known receiver from Western Michigan by the name of Greg Jennings. Jennings has gone on to play a vital role in the Packers Super Bowl XLV win and is a two-time Pro Bowl selection.

While the Patriots have all the offensive records and the fame for a near perfect season in 2007-08, the Packers have the appropriate hardware to support their decision.
