The Portuguese manager is speaking out in support of his striker, Cristiano Ronaldo, who he believes deserves the Golden Ball more than the Argentine star Lionel Messi for having a greater impact on his team.
"Ronaldo needs to be the Golden Ball winner not because he was the top scorer of the past season, but because his goals gave us a title," said Mourinho. "Messi scored 50 goals that meant nothing, the same way Ronaldo scored 42 goals last season that meant nothing."
Mourinho praised Real Madrid for winning its 32nd league title, but also for doing so in a record-setting fashion, becoming the first European team to ever reach 100 points in league competition.
"The important thing is to win the title, but once we did it we stayed motivated and went after the wins. Madrid has won 32 titles, but this will always be remembered as the team that scored 100 points. That is a unique achievement, one that will be very hard to exceed."
The latest statements made by Mourinho come at the heels of a new report by Terra that Mourinho costs the Spanish team 35 million Euros a year through the following breakdown: 14 million Euros himself, and the assorted salaries of his team.
