Nick Swisher Fist-Bumps Fan Running Onto Field at Yankees-Tigers Game Before Man Tackled, Taken Away (Video)Of baseball’s most grand traditions, fans evading security and running onto the field during games is of the newer variety.

The Red Sox have had their share of problems with interlopers and streakers alike in their trips to Toronto this season.

On Sunday, the Yankees got to join in the fun when a fan took to the field at Comerica Park in the ninth inning as New York’s Phil Hughes was trying to close out the Tigers. While tradition usually mandates that TV cameras don’t capture fans invading the field — with the idea that it will only encourage more misbehaving — TBS stayed with the action as Detroit security took its time to come and take down the dude.

(The New York Times reports that the Yankees were not amused.)

While most members of the Yankees organization appeared displeased at the interruption, at least one guy continued to have his fun. As the fan dropped into right center field, he ran over and greeted New York right fielder Nick Swisher and reached out his hand for a hello. Swisher gave him the customary fist bump.

Swisher told the New York Times he guessed the fan would be “going to jail,” so “why not?”

The fan eventually ran toward second base, where he was tackled and shackled. He left through a right field gate, but Swisher steered clear that time.

Hughes finished off the Tigers and logged the first nine-inning complete game of his career.
