Red Sox Still Potential Buyers as Trade Deadline Nears (Video)

The addition of a second wild card in each league has impacted not only the pennant race, but also the market as the trade deadline nears.

With 21 teams within five games of a playoff spot after the All-Star break, the identities of the buyers and sellers are substantially murkier as baseball enters the second half than they have been in the past.

The Red Sox, sitting at 43-43 out of the All-Star break, historically would likely be sellers — but finding themselves only 2 1/2 games out of a playoff spot heading into Friday, their position is much more unclear.

The Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo explains on Red Sox First Pitch how he thinks the market will shake out over the next few weeks and what it could mean for the Red Sox.
