With the return of Jacoby Ellsbury and Will Middlebrooks to the lineup on Friday night, and the impending return of Carl Crawford, all that remains for the Red Sox to have their ideal lineup together is for their second baseman to be healthy.
And it certainly appears that Dustin Pedroia is well on his way to being just that. The former MVP is now out of the cast he had been wearing and took batting practice both Thursday and Friday.
But the Red Sox will likely be cautious in getting the Laser Show — batting .266 with six homers and 33 RBIs, back into the lineup — considering that the last time he returned from a thumb injury, he took several games to get back to full effectiveness.
The Boston Globe's Peter Abraham was on Red Sox GameDay Live to discuss the situation.
