NBC Sports Gets Desperate, to Air 14 Canadian Football League Games This YearThere was a point in time when NBC acquired the Versus network, and there were some who prognosticated that the fledgling station could eventually rival ESPN for sports network supremacy.

Good luck with that.

NBC Sports, as the network is now known, has the NHL going for it, and, well — it has the NHL going for it. The problem for NBC sports is its lack of rights to broadcast any of the other four major sports, which is basically the equivalent of the History Channel being blacked out of airing programs about World War II.

So NBC Sports is turning to the Canadian Football League to fill its void of live programming, in a act of seeming desperation. Beginning Aug. 27, the network will air a total of 14 CFL games, including the Grey Cup, the sport's championship.

Chances are the sport is going to be a tough sell here in the States, particularly going head-to-head with some NFL games on other networks.

However, if 12-man gridiron is your thing, then you know where you can find it in the coming months.
