Felix Doubront pitched the final game of his rookie season Saturday night as the Boston Red Sox lost to the Baltimore Orioles 4-3.
While Doubront will end the season with a loss, he showed the poise of a veteran starter. The left-hander went seven innings, allowed three earned runs and fanned 10 batters. He did give up two critical home runs, though, which wound up being the difference in the game.
Yes, Doubront made two big mistakes, but he reacted like a professional. After Manny Machado hit his seventh home run of the season in the seventh inning, Doubront came back to strike out Adam Jones to end the inning with runners at second and third base.
Over his last four starts of the season, Doubront has pitched 26 1/3 innings, allowed only nine runs and striking out 31 batters. He will end the season with an 11-10 record and a 4.86 ERA.
