Joe Girardi Prevents Derek Jeter from Staying in Game After Reinjuring Ankle (Video)

The Yankees are already looking ahead to October. After Derek Jeter came up lame after lunging for first base, Joe Girardi made the decision to remove him from the game.

Jeter reinjured a left ankle bone bruise while trying to beat out a single on Wednesday night, but the Yankees will need their captain if they hope to play well into October.

Jeter's had a resurgence this season competing for the AL batting title with a .324 average. It would be wise to keep the star shortstop out as long as it takes to get that ankle healthy.

To see what Girardi had to say about Jeter's injury, watch the video above.

Aetna Strikeouts for A Cause

For every strikeout by a Red Sox pitcher at Fenway Park in June, Aetna will donate $250 to Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program. Through June 25, the donation mark stands at $30,000.

Through their continued efforts in the local community, Aetna is helping to build a healthier world -- one city and one strikeout at a time.
