Jon Lester had a no-hitter through four innings of Wednesday's 4-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays, but after allowing a home run to Carlos Pena and then to Ben Francisco, he lost his shot at a win.
The left-hander finished the game with another quality start, going six innings and allowing three runs on just four hits. He also struck out five Rays.
Lester continues to return to his old form, but in five September starts he has only been able to earn a single win. He continues to deliver strong performances, though — he hasn't gone less than five innings in an outing and hasn't allowed more than four runs in a single September outing.
With five games left in the season, Lester will get one more chance to earn his 10th win of 2013.
