Report: Kellen Winslow Didn't Fail Physical With PatriotsKellen Winslow
wasn’t signed by the Patriots after working out with the team, but it looks like the decision wasn’t based solely on the results of his physical.

According to ESPN.com, Winslow did not fail his physical with the Patriots. The news contradicts a previous report by CSNNE.com’s Mary Paoletti, who reported Wednesday that Winslow failed his physical.

Winslow worked out with the Pats, leading to speculation as to whether they’d bring in another tight end. The Pats did add another tight end on Wednesday, but they opted for Michael Hoomanawanui instead of Winslow. In a corresponding move, fellow tight end Visanthe Shiancoe was placed on injured reserve.

Winslow, who the Seahawks acquired via trade in May, was released by the Seahawks last Saturday. The 29-year-old reportedly has a base salary of $3.3 million for the 2012 season, which would have been guaranteed if he was on the roster for the season opener, so perhaps that played into the decision to opt for Hoomanawanui.

Winslow, a Pro Bowler in 2007, had 75 catches for 753 yards and two touchdowns last season while playing in all 16 games with the Bucs. He’s played in all 16 games the past three seasons, but there’s still been questions about his knees following a 2005 motorcycle accident.
