It turned out that no one was capable of replacing David Ortiz when he was sidelined with an injury to his Achilles’ tendon.
Even though it may have been easy for former manager Bobby Valentine to slot someone into Ortiz’ designated hitter’s spot, they didn’t produce like he could have. If Ortiz were healthy, maybe the Red Sox’ 2012 record wouldn’t look as bad as it did at season’s end.
