Anytime a legendary college football team bucks tradition, there's sure to be an uproar.

Notre Dame debuted their new Shamrock Series uniforms on Saturday night in their matchup against Miami at Soldier Field in Chicago. When the Fighting Irish took the field, social media nearly exploded with mixed reviews (see below).

The Fighting Irish will wear a newly designed uniform every year for their Shamrock Series, which has them playing home games at neutral sites. This year's set feature a two-faced helmet with one side gold leaf and the other navy blue. The uniforms also feature a single navy blue stripe down the left leg. If anything, it looks like one half of their uniforms was dipped in blue paint.

Check out photos of Notre Dame's helmets and uniforms below.

The last time Notre Dame and Miami played in a regular season game was back in 1989. The Fighting Irish looked much more traditional almost 23 years ago.
