Vote: Do You Agree With the Decision to Cancel the New York City Marathon? When Hurricane Sandy tore through New York City last weekend, it left behind destruction that will take months for the city to recover from.

With thousands of runners already registered for the race and an influx of spectators coming with them, the financial impact of the race initially proved too much to ignore. Mayor Michael Bloomberg vowed not to divert resources away from the relief effort but the infrastructure already in place in Central Park begs to differ.

Later on Friday, Bloomberg and the city finally caved to the pressure, announcing that the marathon would, in fact, be canceled, citing the distractions and perceived bad faith of holding such an event in the immediate wake of a serious natural disaster that has left at least 40 dead in the city.

What do you think about NYC's decision to cancel the marathon?
