Do you trade for an established player, or trade for a prospect with huge potential?

That’s the question reportedly splitting the baseball industry in regards to the Tampa Bay Rays’ just-completed trade which sent out James Shields in return for uber-prospect Wil Myers. But that being said, as The Boston Globe’s Peter Abraham points out, the Rays always have a way of judging when players are ready to be shipped out, so perhaps they know something the rest of the baseball world doesn’t.
