The Bruins-Rangers rivalry was a nasty one way back when, and fans are hoping that the 2013 Eastern Conference semifinals will bring back some of that nastiness the teams displayed throughout the early and mid-1900s.
The two Original Six teams have met before in the playoffs — notably when Boston topped New York for the Stanley Cup in both 1929 and 1972 — but they haven’t squared off in the “second season” in 40 years, when the Rangers sent the B’s packing in 1973.
From brawls, to trades, to postseason drama and to even more brawls, the battles between the B’s and Blueshirts have certainly added plenty of heat to the New York-Boston rivalry.
