Thursday night’s tilt between the Red Sox and Tigers pitted two of the American League’s top offenses against one another, but it was the men on the mound who shined — until the ninth inning, at least.
Boston starter John Lackey turned in a stat line nearly identical to his last outing, allowing two runs on seven hits and a walk over seven innings. He was unable to come away with the win — Jhonny Peralta made sure of that with a walk-off home run in the ninth — but Lackey continues to give the Sox quality innings. The right-hander has now allowed two runs or fewer in five of his last seven outings.
