Zach Sudfeld Has to Prove He Has Blocking Prowess to Start at Tight End in Patriots-Buccaneers Preseason Game (Video)

Patriots training camp did not go out with a bang.

It almost did on Wednesday, but Tom Brady recovered from his knee injury enough to take the field for New England’s half-speed walkthrough with the Buccaneers. The two teams will play on Friday, and whether Brady plays or not isn’t the only storyline worth watching in the game.

The Patriots’ cornerbacks are banged up, so we’ll likely see Logan Ryan and Marquice Cole take reps with the first team in the slot against Tampa Bay. Cole has been the better player this summer, but Ryan was a third-round pick and offers more upside.

The Patriots got shallow at tight end fast, as well. Daniel Fells hasn’t practiced the last two days, so the team will have Zach Sudfeld, Jake Ballard, Michael Hoomanawanui and Evan Landi taking snaps Friday night. While it’s fun to watch Sudfeld’s receiving skills, his real test will come when blocking. The rookie had some troubles against the Eagles.
