The Boston Bruins started the 2013-14 season with a 3-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night in front of the hometown fans at TD Garden.
The key to the B’s win was a remarkable performance on the penalty kill. Boston created several quality scoring chances while killing penalties, which resulted in two shorthanded goals, one from a penalty shot by Chris Kelly and another by Patrice Bergeron.
The Bruins were 5-for-5 on the penalty kill overall, which is a tremendous accomplishment given the offensive firepower that Tampa Bay has on its power-play units.
