FORT MYERS, Fla. — Chris Capuano was in good spirits Saturday when he arrived at Boston Red Sox spring training. On Sunday, the veteran left-hander got down to business.
Capuano threw his first bullpen session as a member of the Red Sox on Sunday — working alongside 23-year-old Matt Barnes — and also threw a live batting practice at JetBlue Park. Red Sox manager John Farrell initially indicated Saturday that Capuano likely would face live hitters for the first time a few days after his first bullpen session.
Capuano, a native of West Springfield, Mass., joined the Red Sox over the weekend on a one-year contract. The 35-year-old southpaw is expected to begin the season in the bullpen but also serve as Boston’s sixth starter when necessary.
