FORT MYERS, Fla. — Dustin Pedroia and Xander Bogaerts likely will man the middle of the Boston Red Sox’s infield this season. The new double-play tandem showed off their offensive chops Thursday.
Pedroia and Bogaerts were grouped together for batting practice during the Red Sox’s first full-squad spring training workout in Fort Myers on Thursday. It was an interesting dynamic that also provided a snapshot of what could be the best second baseman/shortstop duo in Major League Baseball within the next couple of years.
Bogaerts, who is just 21 years old, has tremendous potential. If Pedroia, a four-time All-Star, continues to take the young Aruban shortstop under his wing, the sky is the limit for the Red Sox’s middle infield.
