The last time Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts met Detroit Tigers ace Max Scherzer was in the 2013 ALCS, and the rookie had some surprising success in his first big test in the majors.
However, that was not the case during Friday night’s ALCS rematch at Fenway Park.
Bogaerts went 0-for-2 Friday with a strikeout and a nasty hit by pitch that left him with his wrist wrapped and iced after the game. The Sox had a few opportunities to score in their 1-0 loss to the Tigers, and Bogaerts was just as frustrated as anyone that they didn’t.
