Chris Davis wasn’t in the starting lineup Tuesday night against the Chicago White Sox, but that didn’t stop the Baltimore Orioles slugger from making an impact.
Down one run in the bottom of the ninth inning, Baltimore manager Buck Showalter called upon Davis to pinch-hit. Though he hasn’t put up the numbers he had in 2013, Davis came through in a big way, crushing a Ronald Belisario pitch over the right-field fence to give the Orioles an improbable walk-off win.
The Philadelphia Phillies got into the walk-off act as well, as Chase Utley delivered when it mattered most. The All-Star second baseman stepped to the plate in the 14th inning of a tie game and came through with a two-run homer to beat the Miami Marlins.
The rest of this week’s homers include Adam Duvall’s first-ever major league homer for the San Francisco Giants, Ian Kinsler’s solo blast in his return against the Texas Rangers, and back-to-back homers from the New York Mets’ Curtis Granderson and Chris Young.
