Garin Cecchini was all smiles after making his debut for the Red Sox in Boston’s 4-0 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday afternoon.
The third baseman wasn’t expected to play in the series finale at Fenway Park, but that didn’t stop him from arriving at the stadium at 7 a.m. Sunday morning. Cecchini’s extra preparation certainly paid off, though, as Dustin Pedroia’s ejection in the third inning paved the way for Cecchini to make his major league debut.
It was a special day for Cecchini, and it was made even more special when he hit a double off the Green Monster to collect his first MLB hit and RBI in the bottom of the seventh inning.
