The move to designate left-handed Boston Red Sox reliever Chris Capuano for assignment Wednesday was all but inevitable.
Clay Buchholz was slated to return from the disabled list, and Felix Doubront’s move to the bullpen added another lefty who could work multiple innings of relief. Not to mention, Capuano’s numbers were declining as the season progressed.
And although some were wary of the move with Buchholz’s inability to work deep into games at the beginning of the season, manager John Farrell doesn’t think that will be an issue anymore. Farrell said Buchholz is in a much better place mentally than he was before.
