Brock Holt has been on a tear all season long for the Boston Red Sox, but because he joined the team with the season already underway, he still hasn’t accumulated enough plate appearances to qualify for the batting title race.
His .326 average would put him fifth in the American League, just eight percentage points behind leader Jose Altuve of the Houston Astros.
That said, he’s only 11 plate appearances away from qualifying in the race coming into Tuesday’s tilt against the Toronto Blue Jays, but apparently he wasn’t aware of this.
Rob Bradford joined “Red Sox Gameday Live” before the game and said that he told Holt about being close to qualifying for the batting title race and the leadoff hitter had no idea.
Bradford then joked how he’d take responsibility if Holt went on an 0-for-40 slump because now the notion might be in his head when he’s hitting.
Chances are they’re not and Holt will continue to tear it up for the Sox.
