Pedro Martinez pitched plenty of gems in his history-making 1999 season, but none were better than his outing on Sept. 10 in the Bronx.
Martinez took the hill against the New York Yankees that night and was just about unhittable. New York’s Chili Davis broke through with a solo home run in the second inning, but that was all the Yankees would get all night.
Martinez retired the next 22 batters he faced — 15 of them on strikeouts — on his way to a 17-strikeout one-hitter.
