The American League Wild Card race is heating up.
As the MLB’s regular season nears its final month, seven AL teams have their eyes on the two Wild Card spots. As of Thursday’s contests, the Oakland Athletics and the Detroit Tigers hold the one and two spots, but the Seattle Mariners, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, Cleveland Indians and Tampa Bay Rays all have some chance of taking over.
In the most unexpected twist, the M’s are only half a game back from keeping the Tigers out of the playoffs. The Rays have the longest shot at seven games back, but a hot streak and a monumental collapse from another team could put them in the hunt.
