Nobody wants to see David Ortiz left out of the Boston Red Sox lineup less than David Ortiz does.
The Red Sox slugger missed the first two games of the team’s series against the Toronto Blue Jays after fouling a ball off his foot during Sunday’s game against the Seattle Mariners.
“I never thought it was going to be that bad because, you know, you hit the ball off your foot pretty much — not all the time, but it happens,” Ortiz told NESN’s Gary Striewski before Wednesday’s game in Toronto. “I think in my whole career this has been the worst. My foot swelled up.”
Big Papi added that having to fly the day after the injury didn’t help because the altitude caused it to swell more. But he’ll be back in the lineup and looking to help the Red Sox complete the sweep against the Jays on Wednesday.
